INTRODUCTION

In the spring of l999, our third and fifth graders engaged in a project to beautify the grounds at P.E. Bowe School.  They earned "Bucks for Bowe" in order to purchase mulch, flowers and shrubs. The P.T.O. paid the students for cleaning the areas and preparing the soil for planting. The third graders also participated by planting flowers around the flagpole for our Flag Day festivities.

Mr. Kalita, the principal, received many compliments from parents, staff, visitors and students. The children were very proud of their accomplishment and felt that they had made a lasting contribution to our school.

The children will be asked to select plants that will grow well in our schoolyard. They will need to create a design that incorporates sizes, shapes, colors, blooming times, and different types of plants.  They will be asked to prepare the soil, plant the garden and provide for maintenance.
