The (not so) Secret Garden

Last year, students planted flowers and shrubs in the front of Bowe School. This was done to enhance the look of the school. Mr. Kalita received many compliments regarding the improvement. He has asked that you become school gardeners and help continue this project.

TASK

   You will be designing a garden for the front of the school. This will involve selecting appropriate plants for the area, designing the garden, preparing the soil, planting and scheduling maintenance.
    You will need to accomplish the following:

Research appropriate plants for the area

Design the garden

Make preparations for planting including materials for soil preparation

Plant the garden and provide a schedule for maintenance

                       THE PROCESS

You will be working on a team. Members of the team will be assigned specific tasks, which will include these activities.

Writing letters or sending e-mail to nurseries

Investigating resources to research types of flowers and shrubs appropriate to our area and soil conditions necessary for planting

EVALUATION

You will be asked to keep a daily journal of your work.

Each team will make a presentation about what they learned.
