May Newsletter sun_cld1.gif (967 bytes)

I am pleased to announce the opening of a small play structure designed for our younger students.  Students in grades Pre K – K will have opportunities to use the new space along with new tricycles and a variety of outdoor equipment.  A number of people made all of this possible.  I want to personally thank the CPS maintenance department and Chicopee Department of Public Works for assisting in preparing the space and installing the equipment.  We will continue to raise money to install additional play spaces for our older children.  We might even have some swings by Spring '08!

During the month of May, students in all grades will participate in our end of year testing. An assessment schedule has been designed to ensure that children will not be overloaded with testing.  I recommend that children get a good night’s sleep before any assessments and that children eat a good breakfast on the day of a test.  Encourage your child to do his/her best on the day of any assessment.  Students in grades K – 2 will take a small amount of testing which will not take a significant amount of time.  Students in grades 3 – 5 will take MCAS tests starting on May 14.  Students in older grades will also take additional tests in the area of English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Results from all assessments, with the exception of MCAS, are reported to the department of education.  Our ability to demonstrate progress assists us in receiving grant funds for programs that benefit our students.  Families will receive notification of testing results with end of year report cards.

As the year winds down, we are still preparing for the 2007 – 2008 school year.  I have not received many letters from parents discussing the type of teacher they would prefer for their child.  Class placement is designed in May.  If you would like input in this process, please write me a note soon!

We are eagerly waiting for our School Redesign / Extended Learning Time Initiative to be approved by the Department of Education.  I am told that our project is well designed and should be completely funded.

We hope to open in September 2007 with new hours!
 8:00 AM - 3:38 PM
Breakfast will be part of the school day

If you would like more information about this project please give me a call!

Happy Spring
