     It is hard to believe that it is already June.  Here at Bowe School, we are extremely pleased with all of the energy your children have put into their academic work.  As we are starting to receive some of our end-of-year testing results, I am proud to announce that there are some very significant results.  All results will be available in the fall when the School Improvement Plan has been published.     

     If your child did not meet a grade level benchmark or fell into an ‘at risk’ category, then your child was referred for summer school.  The sound of summer school does not traditionally sit well with many students.  This year this program will take place here at Bowe School.  We will work in partnership with the VOC summer camp program run out of Cabot Manor.  Students who attend the summer program at Bowe will be able to fully participate in all fieldtrips run by VOC.      

     We have also received funding to bring back our Jump Start program.  This program is designed to assist those students entering grades 3 – 5 who need an additional ‘Jump Start’ to the routines of the school day.  This program will take place from August 11 – 22, 2008.  It will be a half-day program.  Details will be sent home shortly.

     If for some reason you are not able to join us for summer school, please remember that your child will lose skills that are not practiced.  An easy solution for this is to READ, READ, READ.  Encourage your child to read.  If you would like a list of suggested books, please request one from your child’s teacher.  The public library has a wonderful summer reading program as well.

     When school starts up in the fall, there will be changes in the school hours.  In the fall, classes will start at 8:00AM!  (This includes breakfast, which will be part of the school day.)  Dismissal will take place at 3:43PM.  Please start making arrangements now to accommodate these hours.  With the expanded time, we will be changing schedules and hiring more staff.  If you have any questions, or would like to hear more about the details or this program,please feel free to give me a phone call at 594-3431!
